Jeff Akin

Jeff has been involved in grassroots activism for four decades. Growing up in Texas and being named after his uncle, the author of the Texas Declaration of Independence, Collin McKinney, Collin Jeffrey Akin was prepared for politics from an early age. His accomplishments include helping to elect the first Republican from his district to the Texas Senate, the first Republican from his district to the Texas House, the first Republican County Judge, County Clerk, and County Treasurer to his county. Jeff has also been instrumental in defeating serval tax initiatives in his area and led a tax rollback effort that reduced the tax rate in his county. He founded several grassroots organizations; many are still going strong today.

Jeff has received many awards in recognition of his work with grassroots organizations. The most meaningful was when Texas State Sen. Bryan Hughes had a state flag flown over the state capitol in recognition of Jeff’s work with the Bowie County Patriots.

Jeff understands the challenges of winning elections with no money and few resources. But there are ways to overcome those challenges. Jeff’s goal was always to win elections through informing people about the issues, inspiring them to do something about those issues, and getting people involved in the process of changing the issues. It is time for change, but we must know what needs to be changed, how they can be changed, and then be the ones who bring about that change.
